Spreading the news – Mediahuis Hasselt

This project was the first step in the redevelopment of the former Concentra site.
After demolishing the former print infrastructure, the whole site was converted into a contemporary work site.
Concentra site
eld was commissioned to develop the masterplan for the Concentra site. The development of this masterplan (in collaboration with Mamu Architects) was concentrated around a park area that provides a pleasant working atmosphere on the one hand, while also forming a water buffer for the whole site. Future development will include logistic and multifunctional commercial space at one end of the site, and more office-oriented activities towards the busy Hasselt ring road. Buildings along this ringroad share an architectural language of a solid base with cantilevered volumes on top.
Mediahuis
Mediahuis is an international media company behind a wide range of cross media brand such as the newspaper Het Belang van Limburg and the local tv station TVL.
eld chose to see their work environment as a multifunctional media hub for editorial, commercial, radio TV and other media activities, but also for start-ups, new digital news sites and audio-on-demand journalism.
The new facility houses the editorial office of the Mediahuis title Het Belang van Limburg, the most read newspaper of the area, in a contemporary and open setting, together with other office and (semi) public spaces.
The building is conceived as a meeting place and open setting within a very open structure, encouraging chance encounters amongst staff members and potential visitors. Thanks to 3-dimesionale views over different floors and the compact organization of the fairly deep building, a spatial diaphragm is created in which you can orient yourself perfectly.
eld is providing full architectural services for the shared underground parking and for the Mediahuis building.
