Lot 4 is part of the KanaalPark development project in Vilvoorde, Belgium. This urban renewal site is located along the Brussels-Vilvoorde canal, nestled between the historic Tuchthuis prison, the Zenne River, and the canal quay. The KanaalPark project aims to create a vibrant, green urban district that harmoniously blends residential, commercial, and recreational functions.
Lot 4 is situated upstream within the overall development and lies adjacent to the Kanaalplein. The site comprises three above-ground building volumes. Phase 1 of the construction was completed in 2024 and delivered 47 residential units, along with a section of the underground parking garage.
When fully completed, Lot 4 will contain a total of 126 residential units. The layout of the buildings has been carefully designed to maximize visual connections with the surrounding greenery, the canal, and the historic Tuchthuis. A key architectural ambition of the project is to create sculptural, expressive structures using exposed concrete. The ground floors will feature open passages and sightlines, inviting residents and visitors into the shared inner garden at the heart of the block.
Architectural diversity and a dynamic appearance are achieved through deliberate variations in building height, the use of terraces as active façade elements, and strategic placement of vertical accents. This variety not only enlivens the overall volume but also creates a human-scaled environment that feels connected and welcoming.
The apartments themselves are spacious and thoughtfully designed, with most being of the dual-aspect type, allowing light to enter from both sides. Many units enjoy views of the Tuchthuis and the canal, reinforcing the project’s connection to the area’s historical and natural context.
